Learn How To Choose the Right Tyres for Your Car

Updated: Jul 10, 2023

There are many steps involved in the process of choosing tyres for your car or other vehicle. It’s not as simple as just picking the first set of tyres off the shelf - those that are the cheapest tyres are not necessarily what you should be looking for. There will be many sets of tyres that suit your car, but not all sets of tyres are created equally. Here are some of the factors you need to consider when purchasing your tyres. When you come into our stores to see us these are some of the factors we’ll take into consideration if we are going to make tyre recommendations for you.

Where will you be driving? Will you be doing a lot of long freeway driving? Will you be driving regularly in traffic? Have you bought a sports car that you will occasionally take out to a local race track. Your usage characteristics, how you are using your car, will be major factors in helping us to determine what tyres will allow you to get the most out of your car, with the right emphasis on safety, comfort and cost-effectiveness.

Manufacturer's always have a preference for tyre suppliers. Obviously they need to provide all cars that they sell with a set of tyres. Manufacturers spend a lot of time assessing different tyres - their compounds and treads - testing different tyres on their testing tracks in ways that their cars are most likely to be used. They choose tyres that are well-suited to most driving conditions and most ways that their cars are likely to be used. The originally equipped tyres are a great indicator of what you should pick going forward. You don’t necessarily have to pick the same brand and model but you should look at similar tyres. These recommendations can often be found in your owner's manual.

It can generally be assumed that more expensive tyres are usually better tyres but we understand that not everyone can always afford the exact top of the range tyre. We have a range of tyres and will recommend the best tyre for your budget. Having said that, if you are going to use your car in a way that requires you to buy the most expensive tyre, then we are going to tell you this and recommend that you buy these tyres.

If it’s time to get new tyres for your car, please get in touch today so we can help you get the right tyres for your needs.
